Dear Reader,
You are what you think about.
This powerful story comes to you from my good friend and business partner Cheryl
Gonzalez.
I was reading this, nodding my head and saying... How true and So Simple.
Thought I would share it with you because I also think Simplicity is Power!
Lynn Grabhorn, author of *Excuse Me, Your Life Is
Waiting*
The "Tough-Love" author of *Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting*, explores
The Law of Attraction and reveals the astonishing power of feelings
JMF: Why did you subtitle your book, "The Astonishing
Power of Feelings"?
LYNN: All the self-help and positive-thinking books have
come close, but they haven't quite caught the brass ring. We can positive-think
all we want to, but thinking isn't really the issue.
We are electromagnetic beings. Because of that, everything that we feel-not just
think, but feel - radiates out as waves. And those same waves come back to us.
It's a pure law of physics: like frequencies attract.
Think of your state as a piano keyboard, centered around middle C. Everything
below middle C is mild worry, a little concern, or something that doesn't feel
good. Anything above middle C is just the opposite. The higher
up or the lower you go, the more intense it gets.
Let's say you're sitting behind some guy at a stoplight. The light turns
green-but he doesn't go, because he has five telephones shoved in his ear. You
start to grouch and get annoyed. Do this all day long, and soon you'll get back
something that matches the feelings that you've been sending out.
People who are extremely ill are not positive, up, happy people. They are ill
because they are not happy-that's how it affects the body.
It doesn't have to be the guy in front of you. If you obsess over something that
doesn't make you feel good, it doesn't matter whether it's something happening
here and now, or something that has gone on for a long time.
It's the frequencies of the vibrations you're generating.
If I say, "Oh gosh, I have to cut the grass," that's just a thought
that goes through me. If I start grousing about it-"Oh, damn, I don't want
to cut the grass, I don't have enough time to do anything..."-now we are
into the "don't-wants."
JMF: If it feels bad, get off it; if it feels good, keep
on it.
LYNN: That's about all there is to it. How we feel is how
we vibrate; how we vibrate is how we attract. It's that simple: pure physics,
nothing woo-woo about it.
I had two physicists in a seminar last year. They both kept nodding their heads,
until I finally said, "Come on you guys, what are you nodding your heads
about?" They said, "Frequencies attract like frequencies; that's how
the universe works. It's just that no one ever told us our lives work like
this!"
JMF: It doesn't matter what you focus on, as long as you
stop and reverse that negative feeling?
LYNN: In the book, I go into more depth. But really,
that's all it is. You can get more complicated with it, start focusing on your
wants instead of your don't-wants.
But truthfully, all you need to do is take your focus off of what doesn't make
you feel good.
It doesn't have to be that you look out your bay window onto glorious scenery.
Maybe you don't have grand and glorious scenery to look out over. But you can
find something and flow energy to it, and that will change your vibration.
You will feel like a perfect jackass when you pick up an unsharpened pencil and
flow this energy into saying, "Oh is that just the most beautiful thing,
you are just the most gorgeous pencil...." I mean, how crazy is that? But
it works.
JMF: How do you do this?
LYNN: That, of course, is what everyone asks.
"How can I just make myself feel good?
I have too many bills to pay, I have a crappy partner, I have dogs that chew up
everybody, I have a neighbor whose dog poops on my lawn all the time..."
JMF: "...And the guy in front of me at the green
light, talking on five telephones."
LYNN: Exactly. So how do you take your focus off that? You
do what I just call flip switching. I look at the fly that right now is on the
inside of my window, driving me nuts, and I start to appreciate that little
bugger for all he's worth. Is he going to go away? I don't know-but I'm sure
going to feel better.
JMF: If you have a lifetime of worry, doubt, negativity,
fear-does it take a lifetime to turn it around?
LYNN: No, and that's a common concern. Find a way to spend
even just ten minutes a day. I don't mean all at once; a few seconds here, a few
seconds there, see if you can get up to 30 seconds a day. Just find something to
look at and appreciate.
I will drive around in the car and say, "Okay, today, as I drive around, I
am going to find something to appreciate. If I see a brick building, I am just
going to just love it. I am just going to appreciate it."
This is something, remember, that you need to feel, not just think. If you can
do that for three to five minutes - hey, even three to five seconds - every day,
you be amazed at how rapidly you will start to shift. Keep it up, and you get
momentum on your side.
JMF: Lynn, I can sit here and appreciate the dickens out
of these trees, this beautiful day, the birds, the garden, that's easy - but my
checkbook balance still sits there..
LYNN: Because you're focusing on it. Money is the most
negatively charged word in the English language. As you focus on it, you feel
it; as you feel it, you vibrate it; as you vibrate it, you attract more of what
you don't want
It's our bellwether, it's the thing that we have that says, "my life isn't
working, this isn't going the way that I want it to go"- and that's exactly
what we get more of.
It hit me a few years ago: here I was, a mortgage broker, and I couldn't pay my
own damn mortgage! The first thing I did was to write myself a 30-day program. I
stopped drinking, I stopped smoking. I kept a log of my feelings. It was the
most difficult thing that I have ever done-but I was bound and determined to do
it.
I was floored at how many times during the day I would get that knot in my gut:
"I don't want to do this.... How am I going to pay the bills...? What has
this got to do with paying the bills...?" After about ten days, bit by bit,
things began to change. Money started coming in; things started to turn around.
Eighteen months later, I was making more than triple what I was making in the
first place.
It's just physics: what I had been getting was what I focused on: a smaller bank
account and a whole lot more bills. Now, I started getting a larger bank
account.
JMF: To what extent are we at the effect of what other
people are thinking and feeling?
LYNN: We live in a sea of negative vibrations; the entire
world lives a good bit below middle C. And we are influenced-but we don't have
to be. That's only a choice that we make. Your boss may be a very negative
person-a horse's rear end, in fact. Do you have to be at the effect of him?
Absolutely not. It's up to you to say, "No, I'm not going there
today."
And honestly, that doesn't take much to become a person who decides you are
simply going to feel a little better. That's all it takes-and you will no longer
be at the mercy of what goes on around you.
JMF: As a former mortgage broker, you appreciate compound
interest. Are you saying that just this little bit, plus a little bit, plus a
little bit every day is like compound interest-that that's part of its power?
LYNN: It's magic. I don't know how else to say it. My
income went from $30,000 a year up to $250,000 a year and has stayed there, more
or less. Now, whenever it dips down significantly, I can look back over the
prior few months and see where I've gotten off track in what I'm feeling.
JMF: So this is a constant process, not something you get
handled once and for all?
LYNN: Darned right. I get e-mails from people who say
"How do you keep this going?" I want to write them back and say,
"When you find out, honey, let me know!" Actually, that's what the
next book, Flip Switching, is about. It is probably the easiest thing in life,
and yet probably the most difficult thing.
JMF: Because it's so simple?
LYNN: Because it's so simple. We just never knew that how
we feel-which we think of as "normal"-is not the way it was designed
to be.
JMF: In your book, you speak about "creating a new
script." Can you speak a little bit about that?
LYNN: It's simply playing "let's pretend" and
getting into the feeling of it.
Let's say you want to put a new tree out in the front yard, and it is a little
more expensive than what you wanted. You start pretending that you are talking
to everybody about this beautiful new tree that is out in your yard.
"We have so much more fun under that tree, we put a swing under it, and
yes, there's a little bit of a problem keeping the leaves up, but truth is, it's
such a joy to rake the leaves."
It's a "let's pretend" game. You do it for as many days as it feels
comfortable. Keep adding new characters and new plots; pretty soon something
will happen. Somebody will call and say, "Hey, there is a sale on down at
such and such nursery. They have got these big trees down there-you want to go
down and take a look?" That's just the way it happens.
I have had it happen to me over and over. I have also had the reverse happen.
A few months ago I was chatting with a guy on a radio interview, and he told me
a story about his fiancee. All her life, for as long as she was able to drive,
she had wanted this new Mercedes. However, she was scared to death that as soon
as she got it, she would dent it. She finally got the Mercedes. Three weeks
later, she put a dent in it! She got what she had focused on emotionally. She
was sending out those frequencies, those fear feelings-and by golly, look what
happened.
Now, here's the best part: she was reading my book at the time, so she said to
her fiancee, "I just created the most beautiful dent in my car." I
thought that was fabulous. She got it!
We live as we vibrate, not as we decide. Everything comes to us according to how
we flow our feelings in every single solitary moment.
If you want to change what you are living, then all you have to do is change
what you are feeling.
I'm not talking about going inside and getting in touch with that cute little
inner child, or why your family dropped you on your head and abandoned you. I'm
simply talking about you, at this moment. No matter what, learn how to change
your feelings in the moment-and magic will start to happen.
We Appreciate You
