Article 1: Reducing To The Ridiculous

As I was getting ready to go to bed the other night, I was watching one of those late night infomercials.  It was another one of those weight loss/exercise programs that claimed it has been a secret to the stars for 50 years.

As I was watching, it was lightening struck me! They stated the same thing every other ad states except in a different way. Here is what they said:

"After 20 times you will notice a difference and after 30 times your friends will notice a difference."

Now, look at what they really said. You are suppose to use the system 3 times a week for 10 weeks. 3 times a week for 10 weeks sounds like a lot to me but doing it only 30 times for noticeable difference sounds pretty simple. Even I can do that!

All of a sudden I started thinking of making a countdown board with 30 and then reducing that down by one each time I worked out. I thought, this is awesome. 

I didn't buy the product but it did make me think. I started thinking of the power their simple explanation really had and how I can apply that to my business.

I was always taught in sales, you must reduce the price to such a small amount that it would be ridiculous for a prospect not to buy.

So I started thinking. If a person bought my eCover software for example and used it 10 times, that means they just reduced their effective cost from $97 for a cover to just $9.70. If they used it 100 times though their cost would only be $.97 for each cover they created.

Pretty neat huh? I just told my prospects that the price is not $97 it is only $.97 per cover! That certainly sounds a lot better and more affordable! Plus it makes sense.

How can you apply this to your business?

Ask yourself, how much can a person save each time they use my product?

or What does it really cost to use my product?

How much time and energy can my product save my customers?

How much more money would my customers have spent if they did not have my product.

Your product doesn't have to be software, information products work the same way. Diet products are great products for this formula to work with.

Lose weight for only $.34 a pound!

Think about your product and reduce it to the ridiculous!

Article 2: ARE YOU BECOMING SELF-EDUCATED?

There are two types of people in this world and two types of network marketers. 

Learners and Non-Learners

Which are you?

Some people think they are learners, because just by hanging around, they pick up a few Success concepts, Principals and Ideas.

Jim Rohn says it so well.  "Formal education will make you a living, if you become SELF-EDUCATED, you can create a fortune".

I could write a book about this concept, but let me share with you a less than obvious thought.

A few years ago we did an evaluation of 30 of the Top income earners in our downline, searching for commonalities, there weren't many.  However one did stand out like a sour thumb.

Do you know what 28 out of 30 $100,000 + earners in our downline, PLUS Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, & Tony Robbins, ALL HAVE IN COMMON?
 
Before I tell you, I want you to really understand the SIGNIFICANCE OF WHAT I AM GETTING READY TO SHARE.   I am talking about TWENTY-EIGHT of the THIRTY TOP MONEY EARNERS from one of the most Successful MLM Organizations of the 90's.  My guess would be that these percentages would be close in virtually every MLM Company.

You know, the stories of the top earners in your company, check out the percentages for yourself.

So what did these 28 people along with Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, & Tony Robbins... ALL HAVE IN COMMON?

They NEVER COMPLETED 4 YEARS OF COLLEGE!

Is that a slap in the face of traditional "wisdom" or what?

Now lets look deeper into the psychological and emotion aspects of this phenomenon. Are you ready?  Open up your mind, and stay with me here.

People that follow the path society tells us to follow.  Go to school; get a good education, and a good job with a good company.   (FORMAL EDUCATION)  

These people normally have deep seated emotions and paradigms that cause them to have a tough time with network marketing or any entrepreneurial venture.  UNLESS, they went to college, KNOWING they were going to get a business degree and go to work for themselves.

Why do they have a problem?  Because subconsciously they have deep seated feelings that say... "Hey, I did what I was suppose to do!  I went to school, got my education, paid the price, but it is NOT WORKING"

They have deep seated feeling that "the world owes them something, that they have already paid their dues"

Let me say that again, because it is very important.  Many times these people feel  "the world owes them something, that they have already paid their dues"

Because of these feelings that are very well founded based upon traditional knowledge and teachings, they some time have a problem with people that are making more money in a month, than they do in a year with little or no FORMAL EDUCATION.  Make sense?

Now, lets look at the flip side of that.  People like myself, 28 of the top $100,000+ downline members, Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, Les Brown, Tony Robbins, and MANY MANY OTHERS, go to the market place with a much different paradigm, which is basically...

We didn't follow the path, and do what society has told us to do to become successful.  So subconsciously, we knew for us to make it we felt like we would need to work harder, find mentors and become SELF-EDUCATED, by learning from other entrepreneurs that had already traveled the road to Success, and Financial Independence.   Does this make sense?

I believe that most of these thoughts and emotions are on a subconscious level.   Today, I believe that a college education has very little to do with entrepreneurial Success, if anything at all.  However, when I started out, my awareness was not what it is today, and they only thing I had to base by feelings upon was the traditional wisdom of go to school, get a good education, and go to work for a good company.

My middle daughter Channing is in college now and wants to be a Christian Counselor.  For her to achieve that goal, she must attend college and get a degree if she ever expects to get a job in that field.  However with Entrepreneurs, a college degree can sometimes be a hindrance.

Dale, what exactly are you trying to say?  Are you saying that if I have a college degree I can't make it in network marketing?   Are you saying that if don't have a college degree, Network marketing success is guaranteed?  OF COURSE NOT.

I am saying that no matter what your background or FORMAL EDUCATION, or LACK THERE OF.....You must recognize that YOU MUST BE.....

S E L F - E D U C A T E D!

"Formal education will make you a living, if you become SELF-EDUCATED, you can create a fortune".

So we are right back to where we started, with a question that is very important.

Are you a learner, or a non-learner?

Answer that question TRUTHFULLY!

I have said for years that most network marketers try to do the business with "what they came here with".

Network marketing success requires you to become SELF-EDUCATED!

Think about this, what professions can you make a six-figure income in without an EDUCATION or God Given Talents and Skills (Athletes)?

Doctor, Demist, Lawyer, Chiropractor, all require FORMAL Education.

Insurance, Real Estate Broker, etc. all require that you become self-educated and get a license from your state.

Many times people sign a distributor application and foolishly think now they can make a six-figure income?  They treat the business like the lottery! 

UNDERSTAND for you to achieve your potential in this industry you must be a learner!  You must become self-educated.  Don't deceive yourself into thinking you are a learner just because you pick up a few ideas, phrases, & principals along the way.

Just because you can finish the quote

WHERE IS THE _______________?  Doesn't qualify you to run a Wendy's Franchise!

Do you want to know if you are a learner?

A good place to start is to look at your book & tape library.

Another question to ask yourself is how many training seminars have you attended in the last 3 or 4 months?   If the number is zero, you need to reread this article.

Yeah Dale, but Seminars COST too much!

"The problem is not that they cost too much, the problem is, YOU can't afford it.  You never ask what it cost, only; WHAT IS IT WORTH".

The best advice I can give you is to INVEST your tax refund this year in one or more seminars!

The money you invest in YOURSELF will pay great dividends!  Become a student.

Just a final note, I hope you take this article, in the spirit it was intended.  At age 20 I attended a Jim Rohn seminar in Ohio, and my life has never be the same.

He taught me many things that I have quoted throughout this article.  Please understand, they are not just clever quotes, to me, they are LIFE GUIDING PRINCIPALS that I have lived by.

He also taught me to:

Live on 70% of what you make

Save 10%
Give to your Church or Charity   10%
Invest 10% in yourself through books, tapes, & seminars.

This advice has served me well, and many other entrepreneurs   I know, very well.  I look forward to meeting you personally at one of the upcoming seminars.
