Article 1: WEEKLY MEETINGS -- THE LIFE BLOOD OF YOUR MLM BUSINESS

By Dale Calvert

There is a Bible verse which says "Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together".  While it may be possible to practice your religious faith, and not attend church every Sunday, I would estimate that ninety percent of the population need that spiritual connection each and every week. I know I certainly do!

After twenty years in the MLM Industry, the facts have shown that ninety percent of network marketers need a weekly meeting!  In many respects for the same reasons that people who have a religious belief, need Sunday morning.

Amway has proven this over the years.  Fellowship with like minded is a very important aspect of this business. To ignore this fact is naive and shows major lack of awareness!  In past newsletters I have discussed the concept of "breaking bread together", or what we call the meeting after the meeting. A time when people can go to the restaurant, "break bread", & bond with like minded people.

Those of you that have heard "The Blue Cassette" or "The Scam" tape, know how strongly I believe in this concept.  At the height of our former company we had 142 WEEKLY meetings throughout the United States and Canada. Our largest meeting in Louisville Kentucky averaged 350+ people per week. Almost fifty other locations boosted of attendance of 50 -100 people each week. Many other locations would have between 20-50 committed, loyal, distributors in attendance on a weekly basis!

If you are having trouble building your meeting, it is for one of three reasons. You have a lousy meeting, or the WRONG PEOPLE, or perhaps the wrong opportunity. The only way to grow a meeting is when you have three or four dedicated, loyal people who understand that THEY  (not their downline)  must prospect, recruit, and sponsor, EVERY WEEK!  A strong weekly business overview is the best place to introduce new guest to your opportunity, products or services.

I have heard all the arguments against weekly meetings.  That is all they are, arguments, objections. In reality it is simply excuses for NOT GETTING THE JOB DONE! What Zig Ziglar calls  "The Losers Limp".

People talk about how busy everyone is today. I agree. However the RIGHT people, people that are ready to make a difference in their life, will do whatever they must do to become successful.

Right now in our company we have a mother and daughter-in-law that drive 2 1/2 hours every week, one way, to a weekly opportunity meeting in Little Rock Arkansas.  That is dedication and commitment.

Your right, most people won't make that kind of commitment, that is why most people fail!  People ask me how much the average person makes in our program. My response $0000, not a thing.  Average people don't make above average income!!

Case and point. Look at the night schools in this country.  Why are people there?  To learn computer programming, accounting, hair styling, etc etc.

What do these people really want?  A new career, better lifestyle, more income, everything that we offer in this industry!  Every student, in every night school in this country, could have been sponsored in a network marketing program if the right person had approached them correctly and professionally.  I BELIEVE THAT!

The right people get the job done.  A month ago we had a gentleman sponsor into our company from the New York city area.  Within a couple of days he held his first home meeting with four or five warm market friends and business associates.  Two weeks in the program, they had their first hotel meeting in New York with 10 distributors and 32 FIRST TIME GUEST!!  Yes I said 32 FIRST TIME GUEST!!

(By the way, I am going to be in New York for a meeting in November.  I would love for you to stop by and say hi!)  That brings me to another law, that I will share here, and expand upon some other time  "You Never go....unless leadership....takes you!"  Why am I going to NY?  EXACTLY!

Now back to the subject.

Reality is simply this; you can't fight against the LAW! "Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together" it's a Law!  It is the way it is.  We can fight it, or we can learn to work with it.

Article 2: THE POWER OF 57 CENTS

A sobbing little girl stood near a small church from which she had been turned away because it "was too crowded." "I can't go to Sunday School," she sobbed to the pastor as he walked by.

Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed the reason and, taking her by the hand, took her inside and found a place for her in the Sunday school class. The child was so happy that they found room for her, that she went to bed that night thinking of the children who have no place to worship Jesus.

Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement buildings and the parents called for the kind-hearted pastor, who had befriended their daughter, to handle the final arrangements.

As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled purse was found which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump.

Inside was found 57 cents and a note scribbled in childish handwriting which read, "This is to help build the little church bigger so more children can go to Sunday school. For two years she had saved for this offering of love.

When the pastor tearfully read that note, he knew instantly what he would do. Carrying this note and the cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told the story of her unselfish love and devotion.

He challenged his deacons to get busy and raise enough money for the larger building.

But the story does not end there!

A newspaper learned of the story and published it. It was read by a realtor who offered them a parcel of land worth many thousands. When told that the church could not pay so much, he offered it for 57 cents.

Church members made large donations. Checks came from far and wide. Within five years the little girl's gift had increased to $250,000.00 -- a huge sum for that time (near the turn of the century). Her unselfish love had paid large dividend.

When you are in the city of Philadelphia, look up Temple Baptist Church, with a seating capacity of 3,300 and Temple University, where hundreds of students are trained.

Have a look, too, at the Good Samaritan Hospital and at a Sunday school building which houses hundreds of Sunday schoolers, so that no child in the area will ever need to be left outside during Sunday school time.

In one of the rooms of this building may be seen the picture of the sweet face of the little girl whose 57 cents, so sacrificially saved, made such remarkable history.

Alongside of it is a portrait of her kind pastor, Dr. Russel H. Conwell, author of the book, "Acres of Diamonds"

A true story, which goes to show WHAT GOD, CAN DO WITH 57 cents.

May today there be peace within.

May you trust your highest power that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing you are a child of God.

Let his presence settle into our bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing and dance. It is there for each and every one of us...
